Goal can authoritatively confirm that the much awaited signing of the contract to coach the Super Eagles by Stephen Keshi will finally hold on Tuesday at the Wuse Zone 7 Secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation.
It was learnt that the ceremony would be low key since there has been too much noise and publicity as regards the contract and the leadership of the NFF sees no reason for a flamboyant unveiling.
“There had been too much noise and publicity as regards the signing of this contract. But we are happy it will be done on Tuesday. But there won’t be any unveiling ceremony as it is being peddled in the media. Keshi will come to the NFF Secretariat in the morning and will sign the contract papers in the presence of the NFF President Amaju Pinnick, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Sanusi Mohammed and other top NFF Board members and that would be it,” the source disclosed.
The source also told Goal that “Salifu Yusuf and Sylvanus Okpala are back to the Super Eagles as assistant coaches and they will be assisting Keshi in his second tenure while Daniel Amokachi won’t be part of the new set-up”.
It was also gathered that the NFF has opted out of ceremonial unveiling of the coach but instead preferred that the coach come to the Secretariat to sign the contracts and commence work immediately.
“The NFF Board had directed Keshi to make public apologies to the nation for failing to qualify Nigeria for the last Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and also asked him to apologize for his alleged insubordination to his superiors when he called the NFF President Amaju Pinnick a liar. Keshi has since apologized to the NFF President, the Board of the NFF and lately he apologized to the nation through the electronic media and the print media as requested by the Board of the NFF which has now paved way for his re-appointment,” the source said.
