Retired military officers under the aegis of NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MILITARY PENSIONERS have threatened to make the forthcoming general elections in the country full of terrible incidents as well as scuttle the process if the Federal Government fails to pay all accumulated pension arrears before end of January.
The ex-military men also accused the present administration led by President Goodluck Jonathan of deliberate neglect and perpetual attempt to enslave them having served the country meritoriously.
In a statement signed by its President, MAJ. EROMAFURU BENSON (rtd) and addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan, the retirees stated their plans to disrupt the 2015 elections if the federal government fails within 30 days to pay their accumulated pension arrears.
The group stressed that the present administration has made life too difficult to their members as they accused the federal government of “five years of neglect and being treated as slave over its handling of their arrears.”
“The time has come for you to pay all accumulated military pension arrears or risk the 2015 general election from taking place. In spite of all cries, pleading and even begging for what belongs to us, you have kept us silent”, the ex-military men told President Jonathan in the letter addressed to him.
They told the President, “You can no longer ignore us. If, after the 30 days ultimatum which expires 30th of January 2015, you still refuse to pay us, then the 2015 general election will witness horrible incidents, detonation of bombs and explosives that will keep voters restricted to their homes.”
