The ancient Ikale community in Irele local government area of Ondo state has been hit by a mysterious disease, killing at least 14 people.

“We are worried. Our people are dying. We don’t know this sickness. We are just done with elections and it’s now this disease.Have we offended God? If we have, then we are seek forgiveness. God should forgive us. We can’t touch those who have been killed. I have counted about 19, others said 14. God please, have mercy on us”. One of the residents, Mrs. Mary Omogbehinla pleaded.
However, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju said the disease was a strange ailment, and the symptom include headache and loss of weight.
He informed that local and international health institutions were already carrying out investigation on the possible cause of the ailment and its treatment.

MANCHESTER UNITED FACED DEFENSIVE CRISIS BEFORE CHELSEA CLASH

MANCHESTER UNITED are facing a defensive crisis for Saturday's trip to Chelsea, with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Michael Carrick all missing through injury.

Jonny Evans is still suspended for the crunch clash at Stamford Bridge meaning Chris Smalling and youngster Paddy McNair are the only recognisable first-team centre-backs available to Louis van Gaal.

Fit again Luke Shaw is likely to replace Blind at left-back while Van Gaal has admitted he could utilise Wayne Rooney in a holding midfield role as he shuffles the pack to cope with the absence of Carrick.

"It is the worst scenario," Van Gaal told MUTV. "Marcos and Phil can both play left central defender, and Jonny Evans is also suspended so I do not have many choices.

"Daley Blind and Michael Carrick could playing holding midfield player and I do not have another option. It is a puzzle."

He added: "Shaw I think is training for a lot of weeks already so he can play. Van Persie is another story - this is the first week he has trained with us, with the first team, but maybe we have to think about him."

The England midfielder has been one of the club's stand out performers in the 2014-15 campaign although was forced off towards the end of United's derby win over Manchester City with a calf injury.

Van Gaal insists the disruption his planning for the meeting with Jose Mourinho's league leaders are "all part of life in football" but will come as a bitter blow as the Red Devils looked to cut the gap at the top.

"They are all from the game against City," the manager added. "Blind played on because he always wants to, but the tackle from Kompany was the reason. Jones injured himself in the second half.

"Rojo, he was complaining [of a knock] after the match, and Carrick was also off. We had a big hope that Blind and Jones could reach this game but they can't."

'I'm unhappy with Toure's performances,' admits Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini admits he has been unhappy with Yaya Toure’s performances for Manchester City this season.

The 31-year-old has been criticised for his inconsistent displays for the Premier League champions and came under fire after a subdued outing in City’s 4-2 defeat to Manchester United last Sunday.

The loss at Old Trafford has left City 12 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea but Pellegrini insists Toure remains an important part of the team.

Arteta: Arsenal contract talks will take five minutes

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta believes negotiations with the club over a new contract will take just "five minutes".

The Spaniard, currently sidelined with an ankle injury, is out of contract at the end of the season, and Arsene Wenger revealed on Thursday that he is keen to extend the 33-year-old's current deal by at least another 12 months.

Arteta is currently focused on returning to full fitness, but he claims he will commit to a new contract quickly when he opens talks with the club later this year.

"My only aim is to get back fit and try to perform on the pitch," he told reporters.

We call it light; “electricity” is too sterile a word, and “power” too stiff, for this Nigerian phenomenon that can buoy spirits and smother dreams. Whenever I have been away from home for a while, my first question upon returning is always: “How has light been?” The response, from my gateman, comes in mournful degrees of a head shake.
Bad. Very bad.

The difference between APC and PDP - Governor Fashola

Speaking during an APC meeting with organized private sector at Marina, Lagos today February 2nd, Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola, told his audience the difference between APC & PDP
"The manifesto of the APC is designed to address 2015 problems going on to 2019 while PDP has is a 1999 manifesto and that probably explains the disconnect between our realities and the realities that you hear. The transformation that has been put forth has headed south not west. The Naira has weakened, interest rates has come up and it is for us to chose whether we want four more years of that and the Naira is essential in a free fall in an economy that is currently import denominated and it would only mean that the purchasing power of our disposable income would continue to reduce." he said

Guess their beef is officially over!

Prof. Pat Utomi writes on the controversial Charles Soludo article

Professor of political economy and former presidential candidate Pat Utomi shared this on his Facebook this morning. Read and tell us what you think...
The firestorm generated by Chukwuma Soludo’s well reasoned commentary on the place of issues in the 2015 electioneering campaign has somehow become the core of the campaign. What a way to come from outside and define agenda.
Of course I do not agree with all the points marshaled by the erstwhile CBN Governor and Patito’s Gang member, but not to commend his citizen duty of engagement or indicate as reprehensible the resort to ad hominen bashing of the former Economic Adviser instead of providing Facts to counter the views he had raised.
