Schalke 04 sack Sidney Sam

German side Schalke 04 have fired Sidney Sam and Ghanaian Kevin-Prince Boateng.
According to Schalke’s sporting director, Horst Heldt the decision was taken as a result of their 2-0 defeat to FC Cologne at the RheinEnergie Stadion.

Sam was not listed for the game while Boateng was replaced by Jefferson Farfan in the 59th minute of the encounter.

“Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt announced there would be consequences after Sunday’s defeat away to 1. FC Köln and the first action has been taken: Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam have been released with immediate effect. Marco Höger is suspended from training and first-team action up to and including Saturday, 16th May,” the Geramn club wrote on their website.

Sidney who joined the Veltins-Arena giants in January 2014 on a four-year deal boast of 11 appearances for the Royal Blues that also parade another Nigerian, Chinedu Obasi.

Mother's Day surprise from President Obama to some lucky mums

US President, Barack Obama yesterday surprised three mothers by calling them on the phone to wish them a Happy Mother's Day. According to a White House source, Pres. Obama called Stephanie Tarr from Minnesota, Dawn Miller from Arizona and Patricia Church from Florida, who had at one point or the other written letters to the president.

"Hi. This is Barack Obama. Your President." Obama said "I know how tough it is to raise kids and do right by them, and if it hadn't been for my mother, I certainly wouldn't be here," Obama said on a phone call with one of the mothers "You are doing the most important work there is."

Lagos Govt to provide Wi-Fi services for residents (in parks only)

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos state Ministry of Information Communication Technology, ICT, Mrs Nike Animashaun, has revealed plans by the state government to provide Wi-Fi services to residents of the state. Speaking at the state ministerial briefing in Alausa recently, Mrs Animashaun said the first phase of the Wi-Fi connectivity would be installed in parks within the state. She listed the first parks to benefit from the WiFi installment as Oshodi, Alausa and Ajegunle parks.

Woman Hires Assasins to Kill Husband

A 57-year-old man, Solomon Fasade, has pleaded with an Iyana-Ipaja Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his 17-year-old marriage to Abosede.
Mr Fasade, who lives in Ayobo, a Lagos suburb, is accusing his wife of waywardness and threatening his life.
He claimed that she brought another man to their house.
“Two years after I was robbed, I later got to know my wife arranged armed robbers to my house and went as far as asking them to kill me,” he said.
When the court’s President, Mrs Shalewa Banjoko, asked him how he got to know this, he said: “It was a neighbour who told me the insect that eats up a leaf lives on the leaf. I was confused and shocked.”
The defendant, Mrs Fasade (43), said the only reason her husband thinks she is a flirt is because she sells alcoholic drinks.
“I sell alcoholic drinks in front of my husband’s house but I am not an harlot,” she said.
She said she never planned to kill her husband.
“I will never kill him because he has been responsible for the upkeep of the children I had from my previous marriage. If it was my intention, I would have succeeded in doing so because I cook for him and we sleep together on the same bed. I will never do such. I still need my husband because he is a good man,” Mrs Fasade said.
Banjoko ordered the couple to be peaceful and adjourned the matter till Thursday.

Toddler Kidnapped in Lagos Church

Children, it appears, have become endangered species, as they seem to be the new target of evil-minded persons who are on the prowl looking for any vulnerable and unguarded one to kidnap.

Barely four days after the three Orekoya kids were rescued after an eight-day ordeal in the kidnapper’s den, another toddler was on Sunday abducted in Lagos, this time from a church.

The little girl, who was identified as Oluwabunmi Ajelero, was abducted by unknown persons at her parents’ church in Ojuelegba Road, Surulere, Lagos.

According to a message, which has since gone viral, the little girl was kidnapped at the end of the church service at Surulere Baptist Church, 52/54, Ojuelegba Road, Surulere.

The text read thus: "Our 3-year-old girl, Oluwabunmi Ajelero, got missing today at Surulere Baptist Church 52/54, Ojuelegba road, Surulere.

"Strange men walked into the premises and took her away on a bike through Nathan Street, off Ojuelegba.
"Please help us, our hearts are broken, we're crying with heavy hearts. We don't know what to do anymore.

"Please if you see this child in anyway, kindly call any of these numbers 08022289455, 07085678831, 08098230603, or 08023036852."
When contacted via one of the numbers, the brother of the victim's father, Mr. Adeniran Adejuwon, said the kidnappers had contacted them, asking for millions of naira as ransom.

In an exclusive interview with THISDAY he said: "The kidnappers have contacted us and they are demanding millions of naira as ransom but I don't want to speculate on the exact figure.

"They allowed the father of the baby to speak with her so we know she is alive. As regarding the ransom, we are negotiating with them."
On how the kidnappers were able to abduct the girl despite the crowd in the church, he said: "The service was winding down and while some children were playing, others were trying to locate their parents.

"We were not there when it happened but one of the children that first saw the stranger was a nine-year-old. According to him, the stranger walked into the church and snatched my niece.

"When the children raised alarm because he was an unfamiliar face, he ran out where his accomplice was waiting for him on a commercial motorcycle and they sped away.

"We could not catch up with them so we reported the matter to Area C Police Command, where we made our statements and they have begun to search for her."

Meanwhile, days after they arrested the nanny behind the kidnap of the Orekoya kids, Funmilayo Adeyemi, the Lagos State Police Command are yet to nab the remaining members of the gang.

Although it is not yet clear how close they are to arresting the trio who are still at large —Adeyemi's husband, Waheed Kareem; his brother and his wife, Akeem and Joke Oseni — the command is keeping mum on the next line of action.

A text message sent to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, on the issue, got no response even after two days.

Senator Uche Chukuwumerije dies at 75

Senator Uche Chukwumerije is dead.

The former Minister of Information died on the evening of Sunday, April 19, 2015, at the Turkish Hospital in Abuja.

His death was announced via a statement released by his son, Chidi. It reads:

“On the evening of Sunday, the 19th of April, 2015, surrounded by his family, Comrade Uche Chukwumerije passed into the open arms of history, and of our Lord Jesus Christ, after a long but gallant battle with lung cancer.”

“His life is many volumes, which can only be told with care and time, of dedication and focus, integrity and discipline, and an unbroken love for the highest ideals of our shared humanity.”

“Details of burial arrangements will be announced in due course. We ask only for your prayers and good wishes.”

Chukwumerije’s death was also confirmed by the Senate viaspokesperson, SenatorEnyinnaya Abaribe.

“The Senate will surely miss his erudite contributions on the floor of the chamber and his painstaking approach to committee work. Chukwumerije was indeed an embodiment of legislative tradition and consummate activists democrat who loved his people passionately”, Abaribe said.

Before his death, Chukwumerije was the representative for the Abia North Senatorial District.

He was 75 years old.

Four men, six-month-old baby roasted to death

NAN reports that four men and a six-month old baby were burnt to death in a separate incident that occurred in Lagos State.

The fire incident on Friday and Saturday - April 17 and 18 respectively.

The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, told NAN on Sunday, April 19, that four of the victims were roasted to death in an accident that occurred at the Coastain area of the state, involving a commercial bus.

The bus, which was carrying nine passengers at the time of the accident, was coming from Lagos Island at a top speed and as he descended to Coastain the driver suddenly lost control and hit a pavement.

Fadipe added that the impact made the bus to summersault severally.

"The bus burst into flames, burning to death four men beyond recognition. Five others that sustained serious burnt were rescued and taken to the General Hospital, Marina, by the Lagos Emergency Ambulance Services.

"The police from Iponri Division removed the dead bodies to the same hospital. The incident happened on Saturday at about 12.12 p.m.,’’ he said.

The director also said a six-month old baby boy was burnt to death at about 9.30 p.m. on Saturday at CA Street, House 52, Shagari Estate, Mosan Okunola, Ipaja.

Fadipe said the fire was caused by a candlestick lit by the mother of the child, who claimed to be taking fresh air outside, when the incident happened.

He, however, advised members of the public against the use of the candle, stressing that many lives have been lost to it use.

Fadipe also called on parents to always keep an eye on their children while sleeping, advising them against locking up children at home and leaving for a far distance.

23 year old female arrested for stabbing colleague to death during an argument

Yusuf Monsurat (23), a student of D.S. Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State pictured above has been arrested by the Ogun state Police command for stabbing her colleague, Eric Moses, to death in their school hostel following an argument on March 17th. 

 

According to Tribune, Monsurat who claims not to know how the incident happened, was a close friend of the deceased until she began to suspect him of being a cult member. This made her withdraw from him and even withdrew more after Eric confessed to her that he was indeed a cult member.

Monsurat says she had a dream on the day of the incident and in the dream, she saw Moses and herself engaged in a quarrel, and Moses slapped her in the dream. She said as soon as she woke up, she approached one of her friends who she narrated her dream to. As she was narrating her story, she said Moses overheard, approached her and picked a quarrel with her. An argument ensued and before she knew it, Moses began beating her. She claims Moses then picked up a knife to stab her but she defended herself and the knife pierced his neck, leading to his death.

"I am from Kwara State. I am in my second year studying Business Administration. I can’t really remember what happened. Only God knows. He was my hostel mate. Sincerely, speaking, I can’t really remember anything. God knows. I have not been feeling fine. It is just like a dream. We had a normal argument that could come up between students that day. I sat in front of my room when he came. All I remember was that he wanted to stab me with a knife. We started struggling with the knife and in the process of defending myself, the knife pierced his chest. He later fell. I don’t know what came over him that made him take a knife to want to stab me.”she said

Ogun state Police command spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident and said she will be charged to court soon.
